Ladies Retreat #2

Good Morning All,

I just returned from an early morning moon-lit walk around the neighborhood. It was oh so beautiful and the quiet gave me a chance to reflect on our time together in Freedom. As you all know, that place in the world is one I cherish. It is home in so many ways and holds most all of my family memories. It was so wonderful for me to share that space with you all, and I absolutely love our new tradition of a Fall escape together. Mark your calendars now for next year....and let's absolutely keep our eyes open for the possibility of a winter retreat....good soup, lots of fires, knitting, movies....who could complain about that??

Anyway. Just a note to give you all a hug and let you know how important you are to me!!

Have a great day.
Caroline

Hi Everyone,
I thought I had emailed everyone with the date of the next book club which is Oct. 26th at my house. The book as you all know is "To Kill a Mockingbird." Sorry about the late notice.

A big thank you to Caroline for having us to her beautiful getaway in NH. It was amazing and relaxing...so much fun. I only wish Becky could have been there and we would have had a complete turnout!

Here are a few pics from the weekend...I posted them all on facebook if you want to see them.

Meeting at Becky's

Thank you Becky for such a wonderful spread of food and wine! The book discussion was good, and as always, brought out new perspectives on the writing. I loved the photo book you had! and we are enjoying our Tuna tonight- Thanks to your wonderful husband. Looking forward to our Freedom gathering, and to the Oct. meeting at Midge's- can't wait to start the new book.

August Meeting Info

July Meeting at Hanky's

such a great evening with everyone! so sad that Sheila and Karin weren't able to attend. I can't believe I can even type after all the peach Sangria! Thank goodness it wasn't unbearably hot and the mosquitos weren't too bad. So for next month, we will meet at Becky's on August 30th, pending Becky's plans, with the 31st our second choice and the book is "One Thousand White Women" by Jim Fergus. You should be able to get it pretty inexpensively on Amazon in the used section, as it's been out for a while, but I have heard great reviews from a few individuals, so hopefully it will be an interesting read for the summer - what remains of it anyway. I so enjoy this group of diverse and interesting ladies, and appreciate the little amount of time we have together. September looms ahead with plans for Freedom at Carolines...an email will follow with tentative dates for a long weekend. Love to you all, hanky

Club Archives

Hi Everyone. I am trying to update our book list and find that I am drawing a complete blank on certain things. Can any of you please tell me:
  1. What did we discuss on 2/25? It was here at my house, but I completely forget!
  2. Who recommended and who hosted for Olive Kittride last Novermber, and South of bend last October.
  3. What was the date of the October meeting? (I missed it.)

Thanks for your help!

April Meeting at Lorraine's

Here is the blog for your consideration.

We are reading Dr. Zhivago, Boris Pasternak,

March/April meeting

I read the emails, but thought I would put something on the blog! It looks like we are now looking at our alternate dates, since Midge can't do April 8. If everyone feels that March 30 is too soon, feel free to go with April 1 even though I won't be able to do that date. I'm not sure that 2 more days will make a difference in the time needed for the book, but if so, that's fine. I know how hard it is picking a date for all, so we'll do which ever one works for the majority. Great meeting at Karin's, great food/wine by Leigh, and GREAT discussion about the book. Hope everyone is making it through this crazy weather (Caroline is having real water problems, etc., and there are so many trees down, I hope everyone else is okay.)
Take care, hanky

Missed You/February Meeting

Hello everyone,

I am sorry I missed everyone last night and the book discussion. I am sure it was a great meeting.

The meeting date of February 25 is Diana's 21st birthday. I have to leave that date open to celebrate with Diana. She may have other plans but at the very least we can hopefully have dinner and a celebatory drink or two with her.

I know how difficult it is to schedule a meeting date. Keep the February 25 date because it works for most of you. It's not a problem. I have to get back on track and host the meeting after the February 25 meeting.

We will talk soon . . . is it too early to say Think Spring?

Your book club buddy ~ Lorraine

Next Meeting Tuesday, Jan. 19, 7:00

I look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday night at my house to discuss A Gate At The Stairs. Let’s plan on 7:00.

Here’s a link to the Independent paperback bestsellers list if you’re interested. You might need to copy the URL and paste it in your address bar.

http://www.bookweb.org/files/open/files/lists/2010/20100114p.pdf

I was wondering if we might consider reading one of Michael Pollan’s books? I’ve heard In Defense of Food is the most readable. There’s also several fiction books on the list we haven’t read yet.

Bring your ideas!

Betsy
